TRUE RX EXPANDS TRUE OUTCOMES: WEIGHT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM BEYOND GLP-1 COVERAGE

PR Newswire

Dietitian-led program gives employers a clinically supported weight management option that doesn’t depend on high-cost medication

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — True Rx Health Strategists, the Indiana-based pharmacy benefit manager, today announced it is giving employers a way to support weight management without relying on high-cost medication. The company has expanded True Outcomes: Weight Management, its program pairing employees with registered dietitians and pharmacists, to employees who are not using GLP-1 medications. Participants receive personalized nutrition planning and one-on-one coaching whether or not their employer covers GLP-1s for weight management.

True Rx expands dietitian-led weight management to employees not on GLP-1s, giving employers options beyond medication.

Demand for GLP-1s has surged, and the cost of covering them for weight management is forcing employers into hard calls on coverage, access limits or exclusion. Yet even for employees taking them, medication isn’t meant to stand alone. FDA labeling for GLP-1 weight management drugs calls for use alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A complete strategy also has to reach employees who aren’t on a GLP-1 at all, whether they aren’t eligible, their plan doesn’t cover it or they prefer another path.

“There is no single weight management approach that works for every employer,” said Adrienne Williams LaBorwit, CEO of True Rx Health Strategists. “GLP-1s can be an important tool, and for some people they’re the right one. But they’re only one part of the picture. Employers also need options that work for the rest of their population, without depending on a high-cost medication. We expanded True Outcomes so nutrition and sustainable behavior change are part of the benefit from the start, giving employers a more proactive way to support long-term health.”

What the expanded program includes

  • Comprehensive assessment and personalized planning: Participants start with an initial assessment of their health, nutrition and lifestyle, followed by an individualized plan built around their health goals.
  • Monthly one-on-one coaching: A registered dietitian provides ongoing coaching, goal setting and accountability, along with education grounded in food-as-medicine principles. Dietitians work alongside True Rx pharmacists, so nutrition guidance and medication management stay connected.
  • Progress tracking and outcomes reporting: Participant progress is tracked over time, and program-level outcomes reporting is available to employers.

The expanded program is available as part of Healthier You, a clinical care bundle that improves patient health outcomes and helps employers manage the rising costs of chronic disease. Patients qualify for the weight management program with a body mass index of 25 or higher.

Extending support to a broader employee population
Employers can now choose between two weight management pathways based on the needs of their employee population. The existing True Outcomes: Weight Management program supports employees taking GLP-1s, while the expanded program offers a new option for employees who are not using GLP-1s.

Exploring food’s role in employee health
True Rx will explore the role of food in long-term health and benefit design at its next True Conversations webinar, a live series where True Rx leaders and outside experts discuss the issues shaping employer health benefits. The Oct. 21 event, “The Pharmacy Benefit’s Missing Ingredient: Lessons from Blue Zones on Lowering Chronic Disease Costs,” features Dan Buettner, National Geographic Fellow, Emmy-winning journalist and founder of Blue Zones. Buettner’s research identified the places around the world where people live the longest, healthiest lives and studied the everyday habits, including how they eat, that help explain why.

“Our research found that people in blue zones don’t eat well because of willpower. They eat well because the systems around them make it easy,” said Buettner. “Medications play an important role in health care, and nutrition deserves a place right alongside them. True Rx is building nutrition into the benefit itself. That takes real intention, and it’s the kind of thinking we need more of. When the healthy choice is the easy choice, people make it.”

Buettner will be joined by LaBorwit and True Rx clinicians. The discussion will cover what Blue Zones research reveals about how food shapes long-term health, why food is often left out of benefit design, and practical ways employers can build it into their benefits strategy, including programs like True Outcomes: Weight Management.
