LA Times Publishing today announced the launch of the Journal of Breakthroughs in Medicine & Science (JBMS), a peer-reviewed, open-access publication created to bridge gaps in scientific publishing and accelerate scientific discovery. Published continuously, the multidisciplinary journal draws on an established international editorial and reviewer network, connecting researchers across institutions, disciplines and geographic regions.
The first JBMS specialty issue, Journal of Breakthroughs in Immuno-Oncology, presents basic, translational and clinical research in cancer immunology and immunotherapy. The debut issue highlights priority areas including tumor–immune interactions, treatment response and resistance, biomarkers, and emerging therapies.
To support scientific integrity, JBMS uses a double-blind peer-review model. Ahead of its formal launch, the journal received 10 manuscript submissions from international researchers. JBMS operates with an editorial board of 50 members, four co-editors-in-chief and 75 peer reviewers, including active clinicians and academic researchers. The journal has established publishing and research integrity guidelines consistent with those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
JBMS also pairs structured peer review with coordinated production workflows to speed dissemination while maintaining rigorous standards. The platform includes a dedicated focus on methodologically sound research, enabling scientists to build on existing findings and reducing unnecessary duplication of trials. To promote global equity, JBMS waives publication fees for eligible authors and offers reduced rates and mentorship opportunities for early-career researchers.
“At JBMS, our commitment goes beyond serving academic circles; we are building an open, inclusive ecosystem that actively engages researchers, clinicians and patients alike,” said Anna Magzanyan, President of JBMS and LA Times Studios. “By addressing long-standing structural gaps, from supporting early-career scientists to translating complex findings into accessible knowledge, we are establishing a modern publishing framework designed to accelerate real-world medical progress.”
Through an official media partnership, LA Times Studios, part of the Los Angeles Times Media Group, will expand the public visibility of JBMS research through digital content, including expert interviews, multimedia discussions and accessible summaries tailored for patients and non-academic audiences.
JBMS is published by LA Times Publishing, a division of LA Times Studios. Submissions for upcoming issues are currently open. For more information, visit journalofbreakthrough.com.
