Avanza + MedHQ announced the formal launch of its non-equity management offering for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and physician practices, so providers can access full-service management without giving up ownership. The offering builds on the facilities and practices the organization already manages and pairs that experience with established revenue cycle management (RCM), human resources (HR), and payer contracting services.
The company serves providers from single-site physician practices to multi-location surgery center platforms, with engagement models that range from comprehensive management to targeted point solutions.
“Our clients have been driving this evolution for several years,” says Erik Miller, CEO ofc Avanza + MedHQ. “They’ve asked us to go beyond advisory and back-office support to take a more active role in operations and performance improvement. We’ve been intentional in building a platform with the operational scale and expertise needed to support that growth, while remaining committed to a non-equity model. The market has been incredibly receptive to our approach. In the past 15 months, we’ve partnered with four health systems to support their ASCs and physicians. This step formalizes the management work we already do and reinforces our commitment to working with providers on their terms, without ever taking ownership or leveraging what they’ve built.”
Meeting the Demands of Outpatient Growth
Procedures continue to move out of the hospital and into lower-cost outpatient settings. In the company’s 7th Hospital Leadership ASC Survey, nine in 10 hospital and health system leaders report commercial payer pressure to migrate services outpatient, and 89% have at least one ASC affiliated, owned, or under development. At the same time, regulatory complexity, workforce shortages, and reimbursement changes are adding to the workload of ASCs and physician practices.
Independence is also harder to maintain: According to the American Medical Association, the share of U.S. physicians in private practice fell from 60.1% in 2012 to 42.2% in 2024. Avanza + MedHQ’s management offering gives ASCs and physician practices the support to handle regulatory, workforce, and reimbursement pressures without giving up ownership.
A Modern Alternative to Traditional Management Companies
Unlike traditional management companies that often mandate a fixed set of services and require equity arrangements, Avanza + MedHQ operates through flexible engagement structures. Providers retain ownership while the organization brings national benchmarking data, seasoned leadership, and established infrastructure.
- Non-equity partnerships: Providers keep governance and decision-making authority over their organizations.
- ASC and physician practice management: Engagements cover day-to-day leadership, financial oversight, and growth strategy.
- RCM, HR, and payer contracting: These services are available standalone or alongside management.
- Development and advisory: Services span initial feasibility through mature operations.
Full Breadth. No Minimums.
Avanza + MedHQ has always offered access to specialized expertise without a broader commitment. Clients can engage for a single service line, whether RCM, HR, payer contracting, or strategic advisory, and expand that relationship over time.
Miller continues, “Many of our strongest client relationships started with one service and grew from there. That flexibility is intentional. We are not trying to upsell clients into services they don’t need. We are committed to being the right partner at the right level, whatever that looks like for a given center, practice, or healthcare system.”
